Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bone Marrow Transplants.

Bernard Allen

Question:

263 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the waiting list for bone marrow transplants at St. James' Hospital, Dublin 8; and the average waiting period for a bone marrow transplant.

The position is that the number of bone marrow transplant operations to be performed each year at St. James's Hospital is determined at the beginning of the year. The patient is notified of his or her appointment at that stage. The hospital scheduled a total of thirty bone marrow transplant operations in 1992. Patients who cannot be facilitated at St. James's Hospital and who require urgent treatment are referred abroad.
