Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Use of Rumble Strips.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

347 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment when rumble strips and flashing warning lights will be installed on the approach road to Kilrickle Village, Loughrea, County Galway to make the village safer.

The use of flashing signs on the approaches to schools has been authorised on a general basis. The general use of rumble strips has not yet been approved pending completion of a study of their use at a number of locations on an experimental basis.

I have approved a special scheme of works on the N6 at Kilrickle, consisting of the provision of hard shoulders and extra large signs indicating a 40 mph speed limit through the village, with a view to improving road safety. Completion of this work is expected by the year's end.
