Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cost of Garda Services.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

168 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice if in respect of the judgment of the District Court on 8th July, 1992 to the promoters of the Michael Jackson concert in the IRFU grounds at Lansdowne Road, Dublin 4, on 25th July, 1992, he will outline the amount of money that his Department claimed from the promoters of the concert to cover the cost of Garda Síochána remuneration for services rendered both inside and outside the grounds; whether the money has been paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Questions on 11 June, 1992, Columns 347 to 350 of the Official Report, where I outlined the position regarding the policing of public events including concerts such as that referred to in the question.

The Garda authorities have claimed £4,532.55, in respect of non-public duty performed by members of the Force, from the promoters of the Michael Jackson Concert which took place on 25 July 1992. Payment of this sum is awaited.
