Question:

36 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education, in respect of the areas Dublin 2, 4, 6 and 8 or the equivalent educational administrative area, (1) the number of primary schools located there (2) the location and address of each school (3) the number of pupils in each school (4) the number of teachers in each school (5) the number of remedial teachers in each school and (6) the proposals, if any, he has, in consultation with the Boards of Management, for the co-ordination and rationalisation of such schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of primary schools situated in the Postal Districts referred to by the Deputy are as follows:

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of individual schools is given in the form of a table which I will have circulated with the official report.
In relation to the question of co-ordination and rationalisation, my Department favours this course on the basis of consensus and agreement. However my Department is not at present involved in discussions on rationalisation with the Board of Management of any school in the areas referred to by the Deputy.
