Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Safety Statements.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

127 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the number of schools which have drafted a safety statement; and whether he has given guidelines to schools on such statements.

The figures requested by the Deputy are not available in my Department. Responsibility for implementation of the provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989, is primarily a matter for the Management Authorities of Schools, who are the employers.

In order to increase awareness of the provisions of the 1989 Act and to standardise Safety Statements, as far as possible, my Department is in the process of drawing up a circular for issue to school authorities.
