Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Issuing of Statements by Financial Institutions.

Jim Higgins

Question:

51 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance if he will establish mandatory standard procedures whereby clients who have moneys lodged in deposit and savings accounts with banks, building societies and other financial institutions are issued with regular statements verifying the amounts so lodged together with accrued interest, bonuses and other such payments and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is a matter for the Central Bank which is the statutory supervisor of banks, building societies and certain other deposit taking institutions in the State. I understand that the Bank is discussing the issue generally, with the relevant banking representative bodies. I have asked the Bank to keep my Department advised of the progress of these discussions.
