Question:

206 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Environment whether the procedures laid down in section 89 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878, for the inspection and approval of night shelters for homeless persons are still in force and being observed; and if not, the reasons therefore.

Question:

245 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Environment the number of night shelters and hostels for homeless people registered under the Common Lodging Houses (Ireland) Act, 1860, and the Dublin Improvement Act, 1864.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 205, 206 and 245 together.

The making of by-laws under section 91 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878 is a matter for each sanitary authority and information on the number of such by-laws which have been made is not available in my Department.

The provisions for the inspection of premises under section 89 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878 are still in force and are matters for the relevant sanitary authorities.

The provisions in regard to the registration of lodging houses and the keeping of a register are contained in the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878 and are matters for individual sanitary authorities. Information in relation to the number of registrations under that Act is not available in my Department.
