Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Doctor Numbers.

Bernard Allen

Question:

463 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has to deal with the fact that Ireland has the lowest number of doctors per head of population of any country in Europe but it has also the highest ratio of junior doctors.

A joint Department of Health, Comhairle na nOspidéal Working Group is presently undertaking a comprehensive study of medical manpower needs in the country. A copy of the group's report, which is being finalised will be submitted to me in the near future. I propose before taking any decisions on the report, to engage in a consultative process with all the interested parties.
