214 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the application of a person (details supplied) in County Louth for a grant under the vocational education committee scholarship scheme for her studies in Newry College, which application has been referred for decision to her Department by the County Louth Vocational Education Committee; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The applicant referred to by the Deputy does not meet the specified academic attainments outlined in the vocational education committee scholarship scheme. Accordingly she is not eligible for the award of a scholarship.
The eligibility criteria for the award of a scholarship are subject to regular review and are currently under review in the context of developing the 1993-94 vocational education committee scholarship scheme. However, it is not possible at this juncture to indicate if the applicant will benefit from any changes that might be made to the scheme.
