Vol. 426 No. 3

Written Answers. - Training and Employment Schemes.

Robert Molloy

Question:

28 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the discussions, if any, he has had to date with the Minister for Education with a view to rationalising the training and employment schemes operated by FÁS and the Department of Education; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997, provides that the roles of my Department and the Department of Education will be defined more clearly in relation to vocational education and training to ensure a better service.

Following a number of meetings between officials of the two Departments, a draft working document was prepared as the basis for further discussions which are due to take place shortly.

Deputy Mary O'Rourke, Minister of State with responsibility for labour affairs, who has responsibility for this area, will ensure that the discussions are brought to a satisfactory conclusion.
