Vol. 426 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

59 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a living alone allowance will be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who is in receipt of a non-contributory pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person concerned was awarded living alone allowance with effect from September 1989. However, when her entitlement to the allowance was reviewed in July 1992, it was found that her daughter resided with her. Her living alone allowance was terminated in August 1992. A subsequent review of her household circumstances in September 1992 indicated that she was still not entitled to the allowance at that time.

If her situation has changed such that she would qualify now for a living alone allowance she should reapply for it, and a decision will be made on her entitlement as soon as possible.

Question:

60 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a lone parent's allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no record of an application for lone parent's allowance having been received from the person concerned. My Department has no information about her situation. An application form has been issued to the address provided. As soon as she applies for an allowance her circumstances will be investigated and a decision will be made on her entitlement.
