Vol. 426 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Wexford Recreational Facilities.

Ivan Yates

Question:

154 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education if she has received proposals for the development of an indoor athletic track in County Wexford; if funding will be made available because of the lack of such facilities in the region; and if she will give details of the particular funding procedure for similar projects around the country.

No proposals have been received by my Department for the provision of an indoor athletic track in County Wexford.

As all the funds available under my Department's multi-annual programme for the provision of sports facilities at regional and local level are fully committed to existing projects it is not possible to provide funding for this project.

The capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities which was administered by my Department was amalgamated in 1990 with the amenity grant scheme administered by the Department of the Environment and the local authorities, who are now responsible for processing all such applications.
