Austin Deasy

Question:

104 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Defence the policy, if any, he has in regard to the acquisition or disposal of property; and if, in particular he has plans to erect any new military barracks.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44, 64, 67 and 104 together.

A number of military barracks and posts has been closed and disposed of in recent years. These include Griffith Barracks, Dublin, the old barracks at Cavan, Fort Dunree, County Donegal and Cootehill Military Post, County Cavan. Collins Barracks Dublin has recently been advertised for sale by public tender. In addition, a number of minor military properties which was surplus to requirements have been disposed of and further properties in this category will continue to be sold unless they are required for other State purposes.
