Vol. 426 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waterford Harbour Fishing Rights.

Austin Deasy

Question:

31 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine if he will ensure that powerful trawlers are not allowed fish in Waterford harbour, inside a line from Hook Head to Dunmore East, so that inshore fishermen using small boats can make a reasonable living.

The present position is that, by and large, powerful trawlers are not permitted to fish in the areas referred to by the Deputy. I have requested the protection services to ensure that this prohibition is enforced.
