Vol. 426 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shetland Oil Spillage.

Michael McDowell

Question:

32 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for the Marine if the oil spillage in the Shetland Islands has had any effect on the Irish coastline.

The oil spillage in the Shetland Islands has not had any effect on the Irish coastline. The Department's marine emergency service monitored weather conditions, wind and current directions throughout the incident and these were such as to obviate any threat to the Irish coastline from the oil, which dispersed and diminished quickly in any event.
