Vol. 426 No. 7

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Ivan Yates

Question:

187 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the steps he is taking to ensure that Ireland does not exceed its milk quota levy this year and does not have to pay a super levy liability.

Under the EC milk quota system super levy is payable once milk deliveries in a given milk year exceed the national quota level. Responsibility for remaining within our quota is a matter for the dairy industry itself. The current year does not end until 31 March next, and so action can still be taken by producers to reduce their potential liability. It is essential that producers should remain in close contact with their purchasers over the coming weeks to ensure that everything possible is done to avoid exceeding our national quota.
