Vol. 426 No. 7

Written Answers. - EC Quotas.

Ivan Yates

Question:

189 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if it is the intention of the EC authorities that quotas in any sector or all sectors will be internationally tradeable; and if he will make a statement in relation to the Government's position in this matter.

There are no proposals from the Commission to make quotas in any sector internationally tradeable and I am not aware that the Commission have any plans in that regard. It is not clear either that there is any significant demand in the Community for such an approach. The issue of an Irish position on the matter does not, therefore, arise.
