Vol. 427 No. 2

Written Answers. - Assignment of Garda.

Liz McManus

Question:

85 Ms. McManus asked the Minister for Justice when a garda (details supplied) will be reassigned to Ashford, County Wicklow.

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of the force to individual stations that, although the garda from Ashford station now reports to Wicklow station, he continues to carry out most of his duties in the Ashford sub-District. They inform me that the decision to have the garda report to Wicklow station was taken in the interests of utilising to maximum effect the manpower resources in the division in order to provide the best possible service to the people of Wicklow.

There is a Garda sergeant assigned to Ashford station at present. The sub-District is also served by patrol cars from Wicklow and Newtownmountkennedy stations. The strength at Ashford station will be kept under continuous review by the Garda authorities.
