Vol. 427 No. 3

Written Answers. - Allenwood Power Station.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

101 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if, in view of the commitments given to Dáil Éireann by his predecessor, Allenwood ESB station has placed the necessary contracts with Bord na Móna for supplies of peat to facilitate the return to full generation at the station; if the station will remain open; if supplies of peat will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Question:

103 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to plans for the continued operation of the ESB power station at Allenwood, County Kildare; if he will consider issuing a directive to extend the life of the station; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 101 and 103 together.

The Allenwood power station was closed down for a technical examination in June, 1992. I understand from the ESB that the technical examination is now completed and that the ESB is preparing a report on the findings. I have asked the ESB to tell me why the station cannot be restarted immediately and to let me have a copy of the report as soon as it is available.
