Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal Facilities.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

41 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has sanctioned the purchase of any existing dump, toxic or otherwise, within the last six years; and if so, the location, cost and the current status of these dumps.

Wexford): The provision of waste disposal facilities is in principle a matter for the local authority concerned. My Department is occasionally involved, under general procedures relating to land acquisition and the raising of loans, in issuing approval to local authority proposals in this area. I am not aware of my Department having dealt with any recent local authority proposal to acquire an existing dump.
