Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Test Applications.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

50 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the present number of applicants awaiting driving tests for the first time; the number waiting for six months or longer; the number awaiting lorry tests; the total number who are awaiting a driving test; and the locations where they have applied for these.

The total number of applicants awaiting driving tests is 29,164, of which 17,191 are first time applicants and 1,010 are awaiting driving tests in trucks. Of the total number on the waiting list, 10,699 have already received appointment notices and will be tested within the next four weeks. The average waiting period is now only 8½ weeks and no applicants are waiting for their first appointment for six months or longer. The number of applications on hand for each test centre is as follows:—
