Vol. 427 No. 7

Written Answers. - Alternative Schooling.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

176 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to provide alternative schooling for those who have dropped out of mainline second level education in the Ballymun area, Dublin 11.

Alternative schooling for pupils who drop out of mainline second-level education in Ballymun is provided by way of a Youthreach Programme and a Community Training Workshop.

The Youthreach Programme is a two-year programme in vocational training jointly operated by the Department and FÁS for young people aged 15-18 years who have left school without any formal qualifications.

The Community Training Workshops Programme is also run jointly with FÁS. It provides training for young people in the 16-25 year age group who are disadvantaged because of low educational attainment and who cannot avail themselves of mainstream training and employment programmes.
