Question:218 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she intends to establish local education councils; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Intermediate education structures will be established as provided for in the Programme for a Partnership Government. I intend consulting with a wide range of interests before a decision is made on such matters as the areas of jurisdiction, membership and functions of such structures. I will be open and receptive of all views which will be expressed in the course of the consultation process.
