Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

228 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she has satisfied herself with the progress to date on the extension of facilities at Scoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare; when the request first arrived in her Department; the various stages which the proposals have since passed through; the projected time scale of those remaining; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An application for an extension to this school was received in 1985, and approved in principle by my Department in the same year. Architectural planning commenced, but the initial stages of planning were not completed until 1989 due to technical difficulties and financial constraints.

Architectural planning was reactivated in 1992 following a review of the school's requirements. This planning is proceeding, but as a number of stages of planning remain to be completed, the project will not be ready to go to tender for many months.

The project is not included in the 1993 building programme, but when architectural planning is completed, it will be considered for inclusion in the context of the funds available, and other commitments and priorities.
