Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

236 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the students who have applied for a recheck in their leaving certificate examination are issued with the results as soon as possible after the recheck to give students an opportunity to take their college places.

It is my Department's aim to issue the results of rechecks at the earliest possible date. In 1992 4,318 applications for a recheck were received of which 4,215 notifications of results were issued on the 15 October with the final 103 results issued shortly afterwards. This represented a significant improvement in the situation as pertained in previous years. However, my Department is currently reviewing the system with a view to having rechecks issued even earlier in 1993.

In regard to places in third level colleges, the position is that it is the practice of third level colleges to facilitate as far as possible candidates who qualify for entry to a particular course as a result of an examination recheck.
