Vol. 427 No. 8

Written Answers. - Safety at Sports Grounds.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

234 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she has received the submission on the code of practice of safety at sports grounds; and if she has made a decision to set up a national authority for safety in sports grounds.

Arising from the report of the Hamilton Committee on Public Safety and Crowd Control, two Codes of Practice, one dealing with Safety at Sports grounds and the other with Safety at Outdoor Pop Concerts and other Outdoor Musical Events are currently being finalised by an expert committee, following a detailed consultative process with sporting and other interested groups and organisations. I am awaiting the final submissions of the committee.

The question of establishing a National Authority for Safety at Sports Grounds will be fully examined on completion of these Codes of Practice, in consultation with the other Departments and agencies concerned.
