Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Depot Hospital.

Liz McManus

Question:

179 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice if she will reconsider the closure of the in-patient facility at the Garda depot hospital in view of the fact that general hospital beds are being reduced in number.

The decision — which is final — to close the in-patient facility at the Garda Depot Hospital was taken for a number of reasons including the medico-legal risk of continuing in-patient services. Out-patient facilities covering such matters as vaccinations and medical examinations continue to be provided as heretofore. In effect, the only effect of closing the in-patient facility is that the overnight accommodation, which has not been used for some time, will no longer be available.
