Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Subsidy Scheme.

Paul McGrath

Question:

229 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if the employment subsidy scheme has ceased since 26 February 1993; if so, the reason that this decision was taken; and if he has any plans to renew or replace it.

The employment subsidy scheme was introduced in February, 1992 as an incentive aimed at promoting the numbers employed. Its introduction was secured following discussions with the EC which resulted in the once-off procurement of significant funding for the scheme for a period of one year which ended on 26 February 1993.

The employment incentive scheme which is aimed at the recruitment by employers of the long-term unemployed, early school leavers and other disadvantaged persons is continuing.
