Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Task Force for Dublin.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

233 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if, in view of the very high levels of unemployment, deprivation and urban decay in the greater Dublin region, he will establish a special task force for Dublin, including business and trade union interests, under the proposed council of the Dublin region, to revitalise employment, infrastructure, investment and urban renewal in our capital by the end of the century.

The Deputy's question covers a much wider remit than mine as Minister for Enterprise and Employment. I am aware of the particular problems faced by the Dublin region in terms of employment and the generation of new investment. I can assure the Deputy that the development agencies under my aegis, the IDA in particular, are actively promoting the Dublin region as a suitable location for foreign investment and Irish investment as well as for the expansion of existing business. The employment/ enterprise problems in the Dublin region will be taken into account in the proposals to establish local enterprise boards.
