Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - FCA Female Recruitment.

Liz McManus

Question:

276 Ms. McManus asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by girls who have applied to the FCÁ in Wicklow; and if he will assure Dáil Éireann that there will be open access for girls who wish to become members of the FCÁ.

Nationwide recruitment of female personnel to the FCA will take place in 1993 and proposals in that regard are under consideration at present. When the details of the proposed recruitment campaign have been finalised, applications will be invited by way of advertisement in the public press.

In addition to the proposed nationwide recruitment campaign, enlistment of approximately 160 female personnel is currently underway from applicants on the existing waiting list. Female personnel recruited to the FCA in 1993 will have access to all units of the FCA.
