Question:275 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Defence when the next recruitment to the Defence Forces will take place.

At present a competition is under way to recruit 36 apprentices for the Army Apprentice School and 30 apprentices for the Air Corps Apprentice School.
With regard to recruitment for general service in the Permanent Defence Force, the position is that the matter is kept under review in the light of operational commitments. It is not possible at this stage to say when the next intake of recruits will take place.
