Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Agri-Food Industry.

Ivor Callely

Question:

290 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount of State funds and grants which have been provided by his Department, or under the aegis of his Department, for the development of the agri-industry; if he will give a breakdown of the commercial companies which benefited from this over the last ten years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the information sought by the Deputy relates to the development of the agri-food industry.

In the ten year period 1983 to 1992, FEOGA processing and marketing grants totalling £161.1 million were awarded to 342 individual investments for the development of agriculture-based industry. These investments, in addition, benefited from State grants amounting to £73.9 million. My Department will forward a list of the companies in receipt of these awards to the Deputy.

Total State funding awarded to projects, including FEOGA grant related projects, for the development of the sector in the 10 year period amounted to £232.8 million.
