Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Ivan Yates

Question:

327 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be awarded a suckler cow quota on the basis of her application, as the error in relation to the acreage on her farm was due to an official rather than herself; and if this will be rectified.

The person named was an applicant for the beef cow scheme in less severely handicapped areas and the EC suckler cow premium scheme in respect of four cows in 1992. She declared on her application that she owned one statute acre and that she had six statute acres rented. She was paid EC suckler cow grants on four cows and her quota for this scheme will be based on the number paid. She was refused disadvantaged areas beef cow grants because she did not farm at least three hectares (7.5 acres) within a disadvantaged area. She has since indicated that the area she farms is seven acres in Irish plantation measure rather than statute measure. This claim is being investigated at present.
