Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Suckler Quota.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

376 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will make an additional suckler quota available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person named was not eligible for the suckler cow scheme in 1992 because his milk quota exceeded the limit of 12,819 gallons set for the scheme.

However, this limit has now been increased to 25,638 gallons and the person named will be entitled on application to a quota based on the number of suckler cows of beef breeds which he held on his holding on 1 January 1993 provided that (i) such cows are surplus to his requirements to produce his milk quota and (ii) he keeps the same number of such cows on his holding until 30th June 1993.
Ireland has been granted a reserve quota of 63,400 cows for allocation to eligible producers. Application forms for this reserve quota will be available shortly.
