Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Peat Fired Generating Station.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

396 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has given a directive to the ESB for the building of a peat fired generating station at north west Kildare by way of replacement of facilities in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bord na Móna are currently carrying out a feasibility study into the construction of a new peat fired generating station using the most up-to-date technology. This study is expected to be complete by end May 1993. The location for such a station will be determined by economic considerations. No decision has been made on the construction or on the eventual ownership of this station and consequently no directive has been given to the ESB.
