Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Appointment.

Bernard Allen

Question:

427 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on the decision to have the chief executive officer of the North-Western Health Board appointed to run the North-Eastern Health Board; and whether this decision suggests the eventual amalgamation of both boards.

With the agreement of the North-Eastern Health Board, I have recently asked the chief executive officer of the North-Western Health Board to accept appointment as chief executive officer of the North-Eastern Health Board. This will be a temporary appointment, following on the retirement of the present chief executive officer with effect from 30 June 1993, and will expire not later than 28 February 1994. In the interim, the chief executive officer of the North-Western Health Board has been asked to act in a consultant capacity to the North-Eastern Health Board to advise the management team in relation to its functions.

The question of amalgamation of the two boards did not arise.
