Vol. 428 No. 1

Written Answers. - Resource Teacher Appointment.

John O'Donoghue

Question:

490 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Education whether she will appoint a resource teacher in Dingle, County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have no plans at present for the appointment of a resource teacher to the Dingle area.

The appropriateness of such an appointment has been investigated in detail by my Department's inspectorate. However, it has been found that, in general, the needs of the children in question are best addressed by the range of special services of which they currently avail.
The specific needs of some children with a hearing impairment have been identified as requiring attention and this matter is being examined by my Department at present.
