Written Answers. - Anglo-Irish Interparliamentary Body.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

121 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the plans, if any, he has for an expanded role for the Anglo-Irish inter-parliamentary tier; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I have previously indicated I greatly appreciate the valuable work done by the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body in promoting co-operation within these islands. It is my intention to ensure that the body continues to receive all appropriate assistance in carrying out this important task. Having regard to the basis on which it operates the question of an expanded role for the body is, of course, in the first instance one for the body itself to consider. However, I can assure the Deputy that, in consultation with my British counterpart, I would be pleased to give careful consideration to any proposals which the body might wish to put forward in this regard.
