Vol. 428 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

29 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of appeals that were made in respect of supplementary welfare allowances for each of the years from 1990 to 1992; and the number of appeals allowed.

An applicant who is dissatisfied with the decision of a health board in relation to an application for supplementary welfare allowance may appeal the decision to the boards appeal's officer.

The health boards have advised that the total number of appeals received in 1990 was 1,975 and 326 of these were allowed; in 1991 2,319 were received and 329 were allowed and in 1992 3,101 were received and 304 were allowed. These figures include appeals under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme and review under the national fuel scheme.
