Question:

104 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education whether her predecessor had entered into an agreement with Mayo regional technical college Action Group regarding the status and structures of third level courses in Castlebar, designed to ensure the establishment of a fully independent regional technical college in County Mayo over a period of four to five years; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 102, 103 and 104 together.

My predecessor did not enter any agreement with Mayo regional technical college Action Group regarding the status and structure of third-level courses in Castlebar, designed to ensure the establishment of a fully independent regional technical college in Mayo over a period of four to five years or on commencing six third level courses in Castlebar in September 1993.

I met a deputation including the Mayo regional technical college Action Group and County Mayo vocational education committee on 2 March. I invited the vocational education committee to submit their views on appropriate developments in County Mayo.

I look forward to the receipt of comprehensive proposals in this regard.
