Vol. 429 No. 1

Written Answers. - International Convention on Climate Change.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

87 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment when Ireland will fulfil its commitment at the Earth Summit and ratify the International Convention on Climate Change in view of the fact that Canada was the first industrialised country to ratify this convention.

At the EC Environment Council of 22/23 March, 1993, there was agreement on the objective that the Community and its Member States should ratify the Climate Change Convention no later than 31 December, 1993. The necessary procedural steps will now be addressed at Community and national levels to implement this agreement.
