Question:117 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if she will review the system for payment of fines to accommodate payment of fines by instalment; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Payment of Fines.
Payment of fines by instalments is not possible without amending legislation. While I could not undertake to say, by way of response to a parliamentary question, what particular legislative proposals I may have in mind, I can confirm that the commitment contained in the Programme for Government to "revise the law relating to fines and provide for their indexation", will be honoured. Any proposals I have will be brought before the Government for approval and will be announced in the ordinary way.
