Question:133 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if any re-drawing of the Euro constituencies will be in place before the next European elections; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Proposals for a Review of Constituencies.
I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 47 and 128 of 23 February 1993. Under section 172 of the Electoral Act, 1992, the Minister for the Environment must submit to the Oireachtas not later than 1 December, 1993, proposals for a review of constituencies for the election of members to the European Parliament. It is my intention to submit to the Oireachtas before that date any proposals which may follow consideration of the report of the Electoral Commission which was established in February last. It would also be an objective to secure the implementation of any such proposals in time for the elections to the European Parliament which are due to be held in 1994.
