Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sea Fishing Licences.

Enda Kenny

Question:

163 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is entitled to a fishing licence.

In view of current European Community policy with regard to fleet capacity and the constraints imposed by that policy, sea fishing licences are being approved only where applicants remove tonnage and horsepower from the current sea fishing boat register of at least equal capacity to the tonnage and horsepower of the boat being proposed for introduction to the fleet.

The applicant in question has not indicated that he has tonnage or horsepower to remove from the register and, until such time as he indicates that he is in a position to comply with the current replacement policy requirements, his application for a sea fishing boat licence cannot be approved.
