Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Compensation for Loss of Cattle.

Ivan Yates

Question:

173 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if compensation from the hardship fund will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who again this year has lost over 40 calves who have died due to an outbreak of BVD in view of the fact that he applied for compensation in 1992 but was refused this and consequently his hardship is even greater this year; and if the matter will be reconsidered.

I wrote late last year to the person named to convey that there were no funds at my disposal out of which financial assistance could be given to cover losses of cattle due to bovine viral diarrhoea. I have fully reconsidered the case in question and, regrettably, find that the position remains unchanged as to the availability of funds.
