Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prohibition of Discrimination.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

206 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he will investigate the difficulties being experienced by people (details supplied) in a certain age group when applying for positions of employment within the private and public sector.

In accordance with the commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government, I am examining the feasibility of legislation to prohibit discrimination on a wide range of grounds. The question of discrimination for reasons of age is one of the grounds under examination for inclusion in the legislation. Consultations with the relevant interest groups are taking place with a view to the early preparation of draft legislation.
