Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Commercial Radio Stations.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

213 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if any public funds were diverted to the setting up or operation of local commercial radio; and, if so, the extent to which this was done.

No public funds were made available for the setting up or operation of local commercial radio stations. Under the terms of the Radio and Television Act, 1988, £500,000 was made available to the Independent Radio and Television Commission by way of grant-in-aid to cover its start up costs.
