Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - Limerick Regional Technical College.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

250 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Education if additional funding for Limerick Regional Technical College, Moylish for 1993 will now be paid; if so, the amount which will be paid; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a large proportion of the college is still housed in second-hand prefabricated accommodation and that the total existing accommodation, including prefabs, is only a third of that required for the present student population.

Michael Noonan

Question:

256 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the reason a substantial sum of money has been withdrawn from the amount allocated to the CoACT College at Moylish, Limerick, for refurbishment and development purposes; if the money withdrawn will be allocated to the project again; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 250 and 256 together.

On 12 March 1991, the Minister for Education announced that £1.4 million would be allocated, under the 1990 to 1993 European Regional Development Fund Programme, to provide an extension for the Regional Technical College, Limerick (prior to 1 January 1993 known as CoACT).

The necessary capital provision for this extension, which is at present under construction, has been included in my Department's third level financial allocation for 1993 and there is no question of any reduction in the allocation of £1.4 million to the college.

With regard to further developments at the regional technical college, my Department is in communication with the college authorities in respect of capital projects to be undertaken during the period 1994 to 1997.
