Vol. 429 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Caretaker Appointment.

Noel Ahern

Question:

253 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the request from St. Canice's Girls School, Finglas, Dublin 11 for a full-time caretaker, as the school has 438 pupils; and if she will give an undertaking as to when the caretaker will be provided if it cannot be done in 1993.

Under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress a phased programme of financial assistance by way of a supplementary capitation grant for the provision of caretaking and clerical services in national schools has been introduced from 1 September 1992.

The initial phase of the programme has targeted schools with enrolments of 500 pupils or over which have not had caretaking and/or clerical assistance already.

Phase two will be implemented this year. However, it is not possible at this stage to state when the school in question might be assisted under the programme.
