23 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence the number of operational vessels in the Navy; and whether there are any plans to increase or update them, particularly in view of the activities of foreign vessels poaching in our waters.
149 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence the number of naval vessels which are fully operational; if there is a full complement of naval personnel available to meet the seagoing requirements of these vessels; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 23 and 149 together. All seven Naval Service patrol vessels are currently operational and are fully crewed. There are no plans to acquire additional patrol vessels at the present time.
